  • Becoming Something True…

One day your heroes look like ghosts

One day your kids outgrow your jokes

One day your hands look just like his

And you smile at all the things life gives, the hurt, the hope, the highs, the lows, the things you keep, the things you let go

Maybe getting old ain’t losing youth, maybe it’s becoming something true

    -Buster Michaels “Slowly”

Maybe getting old ain’t losing youth, maybe it’s becoming something true...” This song from Buster Michaels hits so true. It’s not about aging, it’s about becoming.

Embrace the hell out of growing older and the wisdom it brings, the awareness of what really matters and the better person it has made you . If you think growing older has done none of these things for you, then you are not doing it right. Do a mental reboot and look at what life experiences have been trying to teach you. When you step back from the pain and look inside them, even the worst of times contain gifts. Search on Viktor Frankl to help understand that better.

Growing old is a privilege denied to many and is not something to regret, but to embrace and relish. It’s going to happen to you (hopefully) whether you gain from it or not. I prefer to be a volunteer rather than a victim. That’s just how I choose to see things…

    Enjoy the song!

  • What My Eyes Behold Can’t Be Bought or Sold…

    Shared from https://wistfulwind.com/reflection/strawberry-moon-on-395/

Words can’t describe what I feel inside

When I see the beauty in each coming day

What my eyes behold can’t be bought or sold

And everything’s beautiful in its own way – Dolly Parton

What my eyes behold can’t be bought or sold… this line especially resonates. Things of true value, such as the gifts of God and nature cannot be purchased, they are forever free and priceless.

What is the purchase price of a full moon rising over a mountain? How much can you resell it for? Mega-yachts, exotic cars and anything else man-made is worthless compared to it. Rich is not about money, it’s recognizing the true treasures the Divine gives us.

Thank you Dolly Parton for this beautiful song, the awareness, and for everything else you gave us in this life. Take a few minutes to enjoy it, it is a great song for healing.

  • Sweet Traces of Gold

“I know you’ll remember me when I’m gone
Remember my stories, remember my songs
I’ll leave them on earth, sweet traces of gold” –
    Alice Gerrard

Sweet traces of gold… We all have them in us and should share them for others to find and reflect, when the time is right for them. Many phrases, sayings and such passed right by me when I first heard them because I wasn’t ready to listen. Then one day they hit like a ton of bricks because you have gained the wisdom and awareness to understand them. Spiritual growth is kinda funny that way…

My favorite version of this song is Rhiannon Giddens – Calling Me Home (with Francesco Turrisi). Check it out, but be prepared for the feelings it may engender, as the song calls out our mortality and when the time comes to let go. It really touches the soul.
